Mirae Kang (강미래, Kang Mirae) is the female protagonist of the series. She is a freshman from the Chemistry Department of Hankuk University.
Appearance[]
Mirae's face as a child and in high school
As a child, Mirae was chubbier than most girls her age, with an equally round face and short brown hair that was cut like a boy's, with a few shorter strands sticking out in random places. Her eyes, were covered by large circular glasses. In high school, Mirae has a slimmer figure with her hair coming down to her chest, however, her face remained the same. It was angular with pointy eyes and almost nonexistent eyebrows, her cheekbones were quite noticeable with acne across her cheeks, her mouth was small and her lips looked dry.
Years later, before her the beginning of her college life, Mirae's looks make a drastic improvement. She gets plastic surgery to improve her face, giving it a softer and more feminine look with gentle curves by her cheeks, her red eyes are slightly bigger with double eyelids and thin but neat eyebrows, her lips are fuller with a pink tint to it. Mirae is naturally tall, one of the tallest in her department, and her slim figure is more pronounced, with a bigger than average chest and a thin waist. Her hair is dyed red and stops right above her shoulder, with soft curls at the bottom.
Mirae has a good sense of fashion, using her model-like height to pull of chic and cool outfits.
Personality[]
Though desperate to be seen as normal and wanting to fit in, Mirae also isn't one to sit back and passively let things happen. She'd chase the boys who teased her as a kid, and she also stood up for herself with an upperclassman tried to harass her when no one else stood up to him.
Mirae also seems to struggle with social anxiety and can be very self-conscious about her appearance. However, she is still kind to those around her, which is a foil to Hyun Sua, who was born pretty but is toxic and manipulative. Mirae never lets her insecurities lead her to harm others. Even though she would say she hated Sua for manipulating her and treating her badly, Mirae still went to help her when Sua was attacked by a stalker. She realizes that she and Sua struggled with the same thing: anxiety caused by appearances.
Background[]
Mirae has always had trouble due to her appearance. First if was her weight, and then it was her unflattering face; she was often bullied and ostracized by her peers and made fun of for behaving like a girl despite her face. Her father opposed the idea of her getting plastic surgery, and resulted in her lying about studying languages while she actually got plastic surgery, which was supervised by her mother.
